I love where I live: Auckland. It’s consistently ranked as one of the best places to be. It’s also a great place to bring up a family with clean air, great schools and beaches never more than 10 minutes away.
But when it comes to work it is a little far from Silicon Valley to commute. That doesn’t mean working for local companies is bad. NZ is typically an innovative place and in the league of countries might be considered an early adopter (Eftpos and Google Loon spring to mind). But perhaps a happy balance can be found… we are supposed to have Ultra Fast Broadband after all.
So I’m going to try toptal.com. They can apparently put developers in touch with all those exciting startups on the west coast and in theory I could still work from little old Auckland. Lets see if the dream really can be lived.
